Doing Your Own Credit RepairEveryone makes mistakes, or deals with difficulties. This includes personal finance issues, and often such mistakes or difficulties leads to the need for credit repair. A majority of consumers work to maintain a good credit score and a clean credit report, but if certain issues should impact a credit report, there are always things that can be done to rectify the situation. Each year a consumer is entitled to a single free copy of their credit reports. All consumers should order a copy of the documents and review their contents for problems or inaccuracies. They should then begin trying to correct the problems whenever and wherever possible, but credit repair can be difficult if the consumer is unprepared. This generally means that everyone working to improve their credit should understand how repair works. Generally, a consumer can pay off overdue or outstanding amounts make arrangements to settle certain debts, challenge items on the report or simply wait the seven years for them to disappear from the record. Let?s take a simple, common example. A young man had a cellular telephone while he was in college. He was unable to make the monthly payments after a certain period of time and let the account go into collections. He received many notices from the company, but soon stopped receiving letters from them and began getting collection notices from a different agency altogether. When he got a copy of his credit report, however, he saw that the original bill was a ?charge off?. This meant that the cellular phone company sold the debt to a collection agency, and now considered it a null issue. The collection agency now also has a line item on the credit report as well. This means that the young man can do some credit repair where the collection agency is concerned, but the original cellular phone company ?charge off? is going to remain on the report for seven years from the date that the debt was sold. Can he pay the outstanding debt and see it removed? No, he can only pay the owner of the actual debt, which is the collection agency. So, the next step for the young man is to contact the agency (in writing) to discuss his options for paying off the outstanding amount. He may be able to get them to agree to a lower amount, but usually this is only for debts of $500 or more. Once he gets a response from the cellular phone company he should simply pay the bill as quickly as possible. What if he doesn?t have the entire amount due? He should find a way of borrowing the funds and getting the item permanently removed. If he is lucky, he will have friends or family that can loan him the money, or he can take a quick and easy payday loan to pay off the total amount due, and then simply repay the loan. A payday loan is always a good option for those hoping to perform a little credit repair because they make somewhat large amounts of cash available. These sums must be repaid fairly quickly, but will do a great deal to improve the borrower?s credit report and credit score. For example, a consumer who wants to pay off an outstanding debt on their credit report in order to improve the score can take an advance from a credit card, or they can take a payday loan. If they choose the credit card funds, they will see a very high rate of interest on their next monthly statement, and they may be tempted to simply pay the ?minimum due?. This means they?ll end up paying a huge amount of money in return for the initial advance. If, however, they decide to seek out a payday loan instead, they?ll be able to borrow the amount required and repay the loan according to the terms offered by the lender ? usually a matter of a few weeks or a months. This sees the credit repair effectively completed and also sees the debt totally eliminated quickly and efficiently. The great thing about a payday loan is that it works in the exact same fashion as a standard personal loan, with the exception that the amount is usually smaller and the repayment period shorter. This translates to less interest and the ability to do something like credit repair very quickly and very easily. If a borrower wanted to use a traditional bank for the funds, the credit report that they are trying to fix would probably prevent them from getting the funds they needed to accomplish their goals. What all of this means is that should a consumer need to work on a few credit repair items, it is best to do so in a way that allows the issues to be tackled one by one and as quickly as possible. |
